SCENE : oscar de la renta spring 2012

Some have said Stevie Nicks, but the look at Oscar de la Renta felt like more of a romantic ode to Grace Coddington. Orlando Pita’s billowing tresses stole the show as Technicolor models marched down the runway to Led Zeppelin, clouds of hair flouncing theatrically with each step. In an effort to achieve maximum volume, Pita and his team created scores of braids and flat-ironed each to set the style. Then, following an hour of rest, the braids were unraveled, brushed out and hairsprayed for body. Gucci Westman lent her legendary hand to give skin a soft and shimmery glow with layers of lip gloss on cheeks for shading and highlighting. If big hair equals romance and Renaissance, then Oscar de la Renta’s Spring show gave us that in spades for a dreamy and whimsical presentation.
