SCENE : altuzarra spring 2012

References to the 90s continue as androgynous brows and bold side parts at Alutzarra channel runway looks of decades past. Although the word on the street was that the look of Altuzarra’s Spring show was “Elizabeth Taylor at the gym,’ I’m fairly certain Liz never looked so angular, masculine or wanting for diamonds. Pin-straight hair with a deep side part felt more Jordan Catalano which, incidentally, worked — though not without a heavy dose of angsty ferocity to bookend Altuzarra’s sportswear-lite Spring collection. With MAC pro Tom Pecheux at the helm, faces were a blank (if slightly glossed) canvas for the heavily darkened brows that came down the runway behind a slick wall of hair. Paul Hanlon of Fekkai wanted the hair to look “like a clean version of grunge,” and so it seems, from shades of Helmut Lang to supermodel androgyny, all signs point to a reinterpretation of 90s fashion on our seasonal horizon.
